Slurry in River Threatens Trout
It’s such a shame that our rivers are being put under such pressure. For the second time, it has been reported recently that farm slurry was deposited into the River Gamman in Nevern.
An ongoing investigation into this serious incident means that no further information can be provided, but Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has traced the source of the pollution.
A local man has been convicted on two separate occasions for allowing slurry to get into the river, and local people have made numerous reports of slurry in the water over the past few years.
Concerns have been raised that this is an important spawning tributary for sewin, a Welsh sea trout which migrates from the sea. to Welsh rivers in summer months to breed.
Apparently the Gamman has only just begun to recover from previous pollution in 2018, and there had been reports of trout being seen returning.
