Hospice Needs Help to Avoid Closure

Shalom House, the St Davids charity which provides palliative support for people with life-limiting illness, has just launched a crowdfunding page.

Shalom House, on Nun Street, St Davids, was adapted as a hospice and began admitting patients in 2007. It has provided holistic therapies and in-patient care since then but is now facing financial difficulties that threaten its closure.

Its non-religious service is available to everyone but providing the support doesn’t come cheap – at around £24,000 per month. It has two charity shops that rely on donors and buyers, and various fundraising events are organised by the community, but health board funding has been cut by half to £5,000 a month over recent years and looks likely to end all together later this year. The charity has exhausted its resources and fears that it will have to close if financial help is not forthcoming.

A crowdfunding page has been created where it is possible to donate a one-off payment or a regular monthly payment. The charity also asks that the community raise funds for this resource before it is too late.
