Footpaths – Use Them or Lose Them

The Ramblers Association has been looking at how the many protected footpaths across Pembrokeshire have changed over the past 100 years, and its research shows that almost 400 have been lost. This equates to around 50,000 miles that are no longer available to us.

Recognising the value of getting out into nature, not only for our physical wellbeing but also our mental health, the Ramblers are asking for investment to the tune of nearly £7 million in footpaths throughout Wales and England.

These public rights of way are used not just by walkers but also by horse riders and cyclists, and are believed to have enormous benefits at a time when people generally seem to be walking less on a daily basis.

A programme, Access For All, aims to make more pathways, and the countryside in general, more accessible to everyone.
