Hero for the Homeless

Amanda Evans

A little bird has told us that one of our regular contributors has been recognised for all the amazing work she does with homeless people in Pembrokeshire.

Bernie Davies, one of Wales’s most high-profile black entrepreneurs, is headlining a special event at the House of Lords dedicated to female empowerment, called Women Mastering Change.

Inviting her to attend the event at the House of Lords today, Bernie Davies said of Amanda Evans: “For her unwavering support of women and families struggling with the hidden issue of homelessness in Pembrokeshire, [including] fleeing domestic abuse, we’re proud to recognise Amanda Evans of Homeless Pembrokeshire.

“Amanda, you are truly a woman committed to mastering change for other women. Happy #internationalwomensday and huge thanks for all you do.”

Amanda who founded Homeless Pembrokeshire, during which time she herself became homeless, has shown incredible courage and tenacity in the face of severe personal challenges.

Amanda said: “I would like to say thank you and what an honour it is for Homeless Pembrokeshire and myself to become winners of Women Mastering Change.

“As some of you may know I began HP back in 2017 soon after moving from Kent and then in 2020 I became homeless myself. I lost nearly everything I owned and struggled to stay sane for two years. Despite being homeless myself, I would not give up on the charity. I experienced what many of our clients go through and now I realise how valuable that is in helping others.”

Amanda now lives alone with her best friend, her loyal dog, Eric. She said: “As much as I would love to attend the event at the House of Lords travel, Eric and funds make it difficult for me. I will however be there in mind and spirit. My thanks again.”

We offer our thanks too and acknowledgement for all the wonderful work Homeless Pembrokeshire does, as a result of Amanda’s dedication.
