No Free Tree Collection This Christmas

To support recycling Pembrokeshire Council introduced a real Christmas tree collection service in 2016. A total of 440 trees were collected that year, and a whopping 1,818 in 2022. The cost to the council also increased from approximately £4,000 to £11,000 in 2022-23.

This Christmas there is to be charge of £5 for the collection of real Christmas trees. It is hoped this will save the council an estimated £10,000 a year.

It is further hoped that this will not lead to fly-tipping unwanted trees, but the council intends to monitor the situation and investigate incidents where people break the law.

All old trees can still be disposed of at any of the county’s six waste and recycling centres.
