Cruyff’s Legacy for Kids

Football great Johan Cruyff, who founded the Cruyff Foundation in 1997, was determined that play and particularly sport are an important part of a child’s development. The foundation has helped develop many projects all over the world for children with special needs since then, and now Haverfordwest is benefitting from its expertise and support as ‘Cruyff Court’ has been opened at the Garth Youth and Community Project, also known locally as The Hive

A partnership between the Cruyff Foundation Pembrokeshire, Reech Sports and Play, Pembrokeshire County Council, Sport Pembrokeshire, Sport Wales, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and Street Games has made this possible along with the help of funds raised by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Jo Price, ambassador for the Cruyff Foundation and who opened the new facility, announced great pride in the chance to support young people in Pembrokeshire, saying that there are huge benefits that sport has to offer. The venue, which already boasts a multifunctional court, a football field, basketball hoops, a climbing wall and cricket nets, will now be benefitting many more young people in the community.
