Banks Crisis Latest

November 2023 saw St Davids lose Lloyds bank. Fishguard no longer has a bank or even a mobile banking service, and Haverfordwest is losing Barclays and Halifax – now it looks as if Lloyds is shutting up shop too.

The loss of banks all over Wales is raising concerns and Conservative Stephen Crabb, Preseli Pembrokeshire MP and chair of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, is leading an inquiry in Parliament to  investigate the closures.

Pembrokeshire County Council has been asked to review banking arrangement with Barclays in Pembrokeshire, with news that Barclays in Cardigan and Aberystwyth will also close his year.

It is suggested that the loss of these banks will greatly affect older and more vulnerable people and small businesses; banking hubs plus more ATM machines might be the only options, though post offices can still be a great local resource.
