Get Involved in Art Naturally

A new project bringing together art and the natural world is being led by artist Sally Green at the VC Gallery in Haverfordwest. Sally started her artistic journey growing up in Llawhaden, inspired by nature, and she began her formal education in art at Pembrokeshire College.

Since that time she has exhibited in many locations and enjoyed residencies at Anna Waters Studio Gallery at Milford Waterfront  and Dawny Tootes’ Dockside Art Gallery at Pembroke Dock.

What has brought her to the VC Gallery?

“After dedicating many years to practising and studying art, I returned to Haverfordwest following a chaotic period in my life and found solace and inspiration through the VC Gallery. Collaborating with this charity has been a blessing, as it has provided me with a strong community where I’ve thrived as an artist and formed enduring connections with fellow creatives. We celebrate the transformative power of visual arts and support each other in finding our voices and expressing ourselves creatively.”

Sally’s long experience and years of study inspired her to follow a career in art engagement, and the VC Gallery is now reaping the benefits.

What will be happening with this new project?

“This project is about collaborating with nature and harnessing its inspiration to craft workshops that unite the community in celebrating our natural environment through art.

“Exploring the rich history of healing through plants offers us a captivating journey that we can embark on through the lens of beautiful old-school art processes. By looking into traditional artistic techniques, we not only honour the historical significance of plant-based healing but also celebrate the timeless connection between nature, art, and wellness.”

What will the workshops entail?

“I envision showcasing everyone’s creations from our botanical workshops through immersive installations and sensory-evoking artwork, fostering deeper engagement with nature. Together we will explore various art forms, including batik, bundle dying, textiles, collage, print and mixed media experimentation, aiming to deepen our understanding of and celebrate the beauty of the natural world.”

The workshops will take place every Wednesday at the VC Gallery, 30 High Street, Haverfordwest, SA61 2DA, 12-2pm.
