Making a Start with Art – 2

Still life model…

It takes a lot these days to get me out in the darkening evenings but the art course at Bro Gwaun, Fishguard, with Michaela Hollyfield and a select group of delightful fellow students has me hooked.

It’s such a pleasure to watch the confidence grow and a willingness to play with colour and shape under our tutor’s expert eye. As I write, we are approaching half-term and the past four sessions have taught us how to stretch canvases and prepare them for working with watercolours. We have explored that medium and also pastels.

In between sharing biscuits and life stories, the group are having a great time. One of the things explored is turning real life images into abstract images, with some of the group sticking to one image that they are working from again and again with different mediums and styles. The option to work with still life is also a real draw for some.

After half-term we will be starting to work with oils. I cant wait.

The images here are an assortment of styles and media, some unfinished but all created, some for the very first time ,with a spirit of exploration. Thanks to the group for their willingness to share in this exciting process and to Michaela for guiding us with her skills and humour.

Kitty Parsons

Kitty has forgotten how long she has been here now but she loves Pembrokeshire for its beauty and it's people. She spends her time searching out stories for pembrokeshire.online, swimming in the sea , drawing and painting as Snorkelfish and eating cake. She says "Pembrokeshire.online has been an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful county and its people. Keep the stories coming. We love to hear from you."
