Plant a Hay Bale

Pembrokeshire Natural Burial Ground tells us:
“You may have seen our recent post about free wet hay bales for those who would like some hay bales for their garden, school or community group.
“As quite a few people have asked us how to plant in hay bales, we have decided to go one further and do an informal workshop on Saturday 14 October at the natural burial ground gathering space. We will be there between 11am and 1.30pm to show people how to plant in hay bales. This includes vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes. We will be sharing how to sew seeds, including flowers, into a bale. We will also be sharing how to create a raised bed for your garden out of hay bales.
“If you would like some free hay bales for your garden, we will be there between 11am and 2pm for anyone who would like to collect some bales to take away. If you can’t collect but would still like some bales, you can also have a chat with Dan who may be able to deliver to you.
‘This event is doggy friendly. Children are welcome and we will have some some sunflower seeds and potatos they can take away to plant in their own hay bale.
‘If you love gardening but struggle to bend down, hay bales are really good for those who want to plant their vegetables or flowers slightly higher. We are wheelchair friendly and there’s lots of parking near to the gathering space. There is also a permissive walk around the meadow if you want to enjoy a walk in nature.
“Please feel free to pop by if you want to find out more. We’d love to see you there.
“Our natural burial ground is located in the heart of Pembrokeshire, by the village of Keeston, between Haverfordwest and Newgale. With the Preseli Mountains in the distance and the sea breeze in the air, it’s somewhere that offers simple natural resting places in beautiful countryside for natural burial and interment of ashes. Often families find a space that feels right for them. For some, this is in the meadow with the wildflowers. Others prefer to be close to wildlife or to plant a tree where we are creating new woodland. We also have a special area for natural pet burial.”
