Charles Dale Lends His Voice to Charity

Pembrokeshire-based charity Paul Sartori Hospice at Home recently welcomed Tenby-born actor Charles Dale to its head office in Winch Lane, Haverfordwest, to carry out voice recordings for a new grant-funded project.
Charles, best known for appearing in Casualty and Coronation Street, recently took time out from his busy schedule to help the charity.
Judith Williams, grant development officer for Paul Sartori, last year asked Charles whether he would do some voice recordings for new meditative scripts that had been developed to help promote calm, relaxation and sleep for adults facing a loss. Charles was only too pleased to help.
These scripts were prepared for the Stepping Stone to Hope project, funded by the Co-op Local Community Fund. This project has seen two of the charity’s services, the complementary therapy and the adult bereavement and counselling services, coming together to provide tailored guidance and self-help tools which came to an end after the delivery of a final workshop at the end of March. These workshops have proved very beneficial and have helped local individuals facing the challenge of loss.
Complementary therapy coordinator Heather Green said: “We are very grateful to Charles for coming to record our new scripts which have been tested in our Stepping Stone to Hope workshops. Once we have finalised the recordings we will be able to extend our reach into the community, further enabling people to explore self-help techniques and increase resilience. Charles’s voice was perfect for these meditative scripts.

Charles is passionate about the charity and has personal experience of the importance of its services. Paul Sartori supported his mother at home with a range of services – which had an enormous effect on him and his family. Charles said: “It is because of the care and support offered by the team at Paul Sartori that I am helping them. The nurses do an exceptional job in exceptional circumstances.”
Charles also agreed to carry out the role of patron during the charity’s 40th anniversary year, 2022/2023, which culminated at the Ruby Ball in Wolfscastle Country Hotel on 1 April.

Paul Sartori Foundation regularly organises overseas challenges to raise funds. In March 2020, the participants of the Kerala Challenge were due to set off to India for the charity’s fourth overseas challenge, but unfortunately the trek had to be postponed due to the covid outbreak.
Finally, at the end of 2022 after months of training and fundraising, the team of 13 participants began to prepare for a challenge of a lifetime.

After the 23-hour journey, the group were taken to the foot of the Meesapulimala Peak, 2,630m high, thick with plants, wildlife and home to 100,000 hectares of tea plantations. On their 10-day trek the group walked through miles of tea plantations, over streams, and through villages, where they received warm welcomes from the locals. At times they were so remote that there was evidence of wild elephants, leopards, wild boar, deer and other wildlife.
Sandra Dade, Paul Sartori charity manager, said: “There was a balance of adventure, challenge and cultural experiences. We were all pushed beyond our boundaries – some physical, some food challenges, some were challenged by the camping and toilet situation, many struggled leaving family behind, but we all came away with a sense of achievement.”
After conquering Meesapulimala Peak, the group celebrated raising a staggering £18,500.
