Tea With Sian – 6: The Giltar Hotel, Tenby

The best thing about afternoon tea at the Giltar Hotel in Tenby was the view, as we had a table overlooking the beach.
We were shown to our table by a polite, friendly member of staff, and our cakes arrived on a three-tiered stand with a big pot of tea.
We were a bit disappointed because the sandwiches were a little dry on the ends; and when we enquired about the details of some of the sweet treats on the stand, we were told that the chef had left and the member of staff didn’t know what the treats were that we asked about.
We figured it out ourselves but we think either the staff need to be briefed about what is for afternoon tea – or there should be a list of items available to look at on request. Just a little detail but it would have made the experience even better to know what we were having.
So, the afternoon tea consisted of a small selection of sandwiches which included cheese and pickle and ham. For us, it would have been nice to have included some quiche or another savoury item, not just sandwiches.
The sweet selection included chocolate brownies, scones, jam and cream, and apple profiteroles which were a bit different and we really liked them.
All the staff were lovely and came and checked on us a number of times to see if we required anything else. The hotel is clean and tidy and has a lovely floral display outside.
The price for a Welsh afternoon tea at the Giltar is £17.50pp; Prosecco afternoon tea is £23pp.
