Finding Joy in the Moment

Amy James

Another delightful meeting I’ve had among the Bluetits cold water swimmers was with Amy James who has always been inspired by meditation and yoga. She says that her journey from ill health to self-realisation inspired her in her work to guide others into wellness.

In her early thirties Amy began meditating and, with determination and practice, her perception of the world began to alter for the better and joy at living more in the moment grew.

“The world became more alive, colours more vivid and my senses seemed sharper,” she says.

Amy’s new perception helped her move from feeling lost to having a new purpose. Keen to build on this, she avidly explored esoteric ideas of spirituality, leading to her travelling to India where she trained as a yoga teacher. On her return she continued to explore energy healing and became a reiki practitioner and then a qualified reflexologist.

“I felt like something had taken me over. By looking within myself through these practices, instead of expecting the answers to come from outside, I found greater fulfilment and happiness.”

Amy sees this as a lifelong process and has been inspired to support others to find their own path.

“BecOMe Wellness is the product of many years of learning, experience and practice, in order to help others, help themselves.”

Does she have some tips for anyone thinking of starting to meditate?

“Meditation is a very personal practice and there is no right or wrong way to do it. However, many people find it difficult to empty their minds when they first start, so I advise to begin with that people try guided meditations. They are great for helping you to focus inward and connect to the breath.

“Another tip would be to not judge yourself if your mind wanders. It’s inevitable, it’s what the mind does best! So, if that happens, just accept it before moving your focus back to your breathing.

“Before you know it, you’ll be needing to do that less and less, and your mind will train itself to remain chatter-free.”

Great advice, Amy. Thank you.
