Artists of the Phoenix – 4: Suzanne Nicholl

Suzanne Nicholl is another of the fabulous artists exhibiting at St Mary’s Hall in Tenby this month (details below).

She says of her life and work: “Hailing from Pembrokeshire, it’s unsurprising that I have a love of the landscape, the tangled hedges, rolling hills and turbulent coastlines. My art expresses a personal experience of my homeland, its wild weather, harsh wildness and organic beauty, interwoven with the industrial and historical influences and landmarks. I create paintings with energy, movement and a sense of what it feels like to be a part of the landscape, rather than standing apart and looking upon it.

“My technique is expressive and bold, using contrast, colour and texture to draw the viewer in and around the image. I complete many layers within each piece, using oil, acrylic and mixed media to capture my reflections and responses to the landscape, creating a personal history within the image.

“In 2020 I completed an art and design programme at Malvern Hills College, Worcestershire, and confirmed a love of painting. My new life as an artist is now full of experimentation and artistic exploration as I embrace the creative path of art making.”
