Pembrokeshire People First

We asked JON STRAWBRIDGE for some information about what Pembrokeshire People First is doing and he sent us this. We hope to hear more from Jon in the next few weeks and months about the good work this organisation is doing

Pembrokeshire People First (PPF) is a member-led charity that works with people who have either a diagnosis of, or identify as, having learning difficulty (LD) and/or autism.

PPF runs a Youth Group for young people aged 11-18.  Currently we are online using Zoom, Tuesdays 5-6 pm and Thursdays 5-7 pm. When Welsh Government restrictions permit, we will meet weekly at our PPF base in Merlin’s Bridge, Haverfordwest, once again.

In our online group we run a circle to check in with our group members, we host quizzes, online games, challenges, and we have recently started using Zoom’s break-out rooms which allow for more variety, this has proven popular. We have a weekly winner’s prize, too.

Our group stands at around seven/eight young people, but we have plenty of scope to grow. Our current members are very welcoming and friendly. We are good at helping new young people feel comfortable.

Meeting up in more sociable times

We have a PPF Youth Group WhatsApp group for parents and guardians to inform them of what is happening week-to-week. Here we post the codes for our bi-weekly meetings and any other business such as what activities are planned.

PPF also runs a Computer Console Gaming Club, PPF Gaming Club, on Zoom while simultaneously playing a computer game. This session is comprised of adult members and young people too. For this club, people would need a gaming console that is compatible, i.e. PS4, PS5, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, PC.

This session is bi-weekly and held Mondays 12.30-1.30pm and Fridays 11.30-12:30pm.

Anyone can refer using our enquiry form. Just tick the relevant group.

Kitty Parsons

Kitty has forgotten how long she has been here now but she loves Pembrokeshire for its beauty and it's people. She spends her time searching out stories for pembrokeshire.online, swimming in the sea , drawing and painting as Snorkelfish and eating cake. She says "Pembrokeshire.online has been an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful county and its people. Keep the stories coming. We love to hear from you."
