Ancient Connections: Free History Hunter Training

Ever fancied delving into your family or local history? Can you imagine yourself as a historic supersleuth unearthing long lost nuggets of history from the dust of ancient archives? Might you enjoy researching, writing and publishing blogs and articles about your region’s archaeology or mythology, or are you ready to unleash the slumbering storyteller within? If so, the Ancient Connections project has free training courses tailored to your needs, in St Davids and Fishguard.
Ancient Connections is an exciting heritage and arts programme led by Pembrokeshire County Council, linking communities across the Irish Sea and generating new works of art, community projects, events and activities inspired by the stories that connect these two regions of north Pembrokeshire and north Wexford.
Angharad Wynne, who will be facilitating much of the training programme in Pembrokeshire on behalf of Abarta Heritage, said: “Our aim is to support curious individuals and those with an interest in their local history and stories, to develop skills and be mentored to dig further into their community’s past, and share what they find effectively. No previous experience is necessary and it will be a lot of fun. Our hope is that these skills will continue to serve these communities long after the end of the project.”
A suite of four, free half-day modules of training have been developed to equip participants with all they need to know about collecting, recording and sharing a treasure trove of history and stories from their square mile. Training includes how to collect and record oral history, how to search online and published archive sources for Wales and Ireland, how to share and publish research in the form of articles and blogs, and how to tell these stories. See dates below. To ensure that all who wish to participate have a choice of dates by which to do so. All training is free but places must be booked in advance through Eventbrite.
